THE ORIGINAL LISBON SURFING EXPERIENCE

At Surf Lisbon, we don´t want clients just to learn or improve their Surfing technique. We want also to give them the knowledge and motivate them to relate to the context and unique culture that this sport represents.

We give priority to quality over quantity and, above all, the safety of our guests. Here, we have several stages of training (beginner, intermediate and advanced), as well as different environments (social or recreational and competitive).  We want to bring anyone to surf through a safe and fun process of teaching and learning. This is based on the latest research in the training methodology of Surfing.

Surf Lisbon – House & School is licensed with permit No. 333 / 2014 of Turismo de Portugal, IP (a public institution that regulates maritime activity companies). It is a school certified by the Portuguese Surfing Federation (No.180). Our General Manager has 23 years of experience as a surf instructor. He also taught the Surfing module at the Sports Sciences Graduation at one of the best Sports Universities in the World, Faculdade de Motricidade Humana, in Lisbon. Additionally, he was one of the trainers of the Portuguese Surfing Federation´s Instructors Course.

SURF LISBON – LISBON SURF SCHOOL

Whether you want to learn how to surf or improve your surfing skills, then Lisbon is one of the best places in the world to do it! No matter your age, gender, or fitness level, our professional team will welcome you at the beach.
We have waves for every level all year round, since the water temperature is always the same, and allows you to go surfing 365 days per year.
All of our lessons have a 2-hour duration with a genuine local and certified instructor. Surfboard, wetsuit, and insurance are all included.
Lessons for all levels. From a first-timer to a more experienced person. The ratio never surpasses 5 people per 1 instructor. We divide the groups according to the guests’ level (first time, beginner, intermediate, or advanced).
Since 2008 that we have been teaching surfing to people from all over the world. From kindergarten to retired guests, first-timers to experienced surfers, single travelers, and also big groups.
Anyone and everyone can enjoy a great beach and surfing day in Lisbon! We will show you how.
Surf School - surf lessons

HALF DAY / FULL DAY / MORE DAYS

Every day, all year round, Surf Lisbon uses comfortable vans to pick you up and take you Surfing around the best beaches in Lisbon and nearby places like Cascais and Costa de Caparica.

Surf Lisbon provides a transfer service from Lisbon city centre (Praça Marquês de Pombal). We have tailor-made solutions for you: packages of half day / full day of surfing / SUP, equipment rental, and transfer to the beach for non-surfers (surfers friends, family, partners, for example).

Surf Tourism is a high standard at Surf Lisbon!

This offer includes:

  •  1 x 2-hour lessons per day (half day) or 2 x 2-hour lessons (full day) with certified and professional instructors. This applies to all levels;
  • all the equipment;
  • insurance;
  • transfer from Lisbon city centre to the beach and return. Meeting point outside Hotel Fénix Lisboa (Praça Marquês de Pombal, 8);
  • group photo;

Price per person: 45€ (half day) or 75€ (full day). In August, price is 55€ (half day) or 90€ (full day)

PACKAGES FOR RESIDENTS

Surf Lisbon offers packages of 5 or 10 lessons which can be both group and/or private. These packages have a one-year validity and clients can join / book lessons according to their availability. These packages are for individual use only. We only allow sharing lessons from the same packages in case of direct relatives namely husband / wife, brother / sister, parents / sons.

Our schedules are set weekly, according to the best conditions for the matching levels. Students are notified via email. To confirm your attendance, please reply to that email, or send us an SMS to the school´s number: + 351 91 285 00 66 (has a cost of a call to the national mobile network) with the lesson (s) you plan to attend. If you have a preference for any other hour just let us know your availability by sending us an email at [email protected].

Due to organization and logistic reasons, any absence should be reported until 5 PM of the day before. In case this don´t happens the lesson will be counted as if the student had attended the lesson, regardless of the reason that led to this absence.

The lessons have a 2-hour duration and include all the equipment and insurance. Transfer service from Lisbon to the beach and return is available for 10€ extra.

KIDS

“When children begin to surf, they become not only healthier and looking life in a good way. They become children with striking and confident personalities themselves.” (Grutemberg, 1987)
In the initial surfing state, the overall objective is to provide quality education and to engage the child in the context and culture of surfing, in a cheerful and safe environment.
The specific goals address the multilateral development, which has essentially to do with the adaptation to the aquatic environment and at a later stage with the development of basic motor qualities, indispensable for learning the Surfing techniques.
In these lessons, we apply an appropriate method considering the children´s age and technical level, with special attention to safety, through the use of appropriate equipment (“soft boards”, for example) and preferably with private lessons: 1 kid to 1 Instructor.
These sessions have a duration of 75 to 90 minutes including warm up, fun games, main part in the water and cool down.

Surf Lisbon School - Erasmus student learning how to surf

UNIVERSITIES / ERASMUS IN LISBON

Surf Lisbon aims to bring surf to Universities, public and / or private, and to both Portuguese and international students, aka Erasmus, who are studying in a Portuguese university.
Upon proof of university attendance in Portugal (card or registration certificate), you can have surfing lessons at reduced prices. Even if your colleagues are “not in the mood” and only want to study or party hard, we can put you in really fun groups so you can Surf and relax in between your academic life.
Rates include all the equipment needed (surfboard and wetsuit), along with personal accident and liability insurance. Each lesson has a 2-hour duration. Depending on the season and the wave conditions, the lessons can take place at Caparica or Carcavelos.
Price: 15€ per lesson when buying a package of 5 lessons (75€).

Price: 20€ per person when buying a single lesson.

Transfer Service from Marquês de Pombal to the beach & return (optional but recommendable): 7€

The rates are valid every day between October 1st and May 31st. Between June 1st and September 30th, there is a 5€ extra.

Team building - surf school

EVENTS / BACHELOR PARTY

Surf Lisbon – House & School organizes team-building activities and outdoor training, with the purpose of creating packages of activities related to Surf (and other board sports), and bring these to corporations of different fields.
Based on fun and motivation, Surf helps professionals to learn fundamental core values for better performance in their daily activities. Why should you use Surf Lisbon – House & School as your team-building event organiser? Because,

  • Participants establish relationships between them when they are all in the same place, and together they learn something new;
  • Participants interact in a unique and unusual context, seeing themselves and their partners learn and evolve in a sport;

Through the relationship with the Surf Instructors, participants learn things they can apply on their jobs, such as:

  • Learn and understand what it is to be guided by others;
  • To appreciate and value the importance of being patient when explaining certain concepts to others;
  • Learn to trust their instructors/leaders;
These activities include the Surf initiation and its ethics, environmental, beach and sea awareness. We also organize activities with Stand Up Paddle Boards (SUP). If you want, we provide a certificate of successful activity and organize lunch / snack to finish the event in a good mood at Lorosae Beach Club, right at the beach.

Board rental - Surf School

SURF LISBON SCHOOL – EQUIPMENT RENTAL

Surf Lisbon provides all the equipment for those who want to go surfing but do not have their own surfboard or wetsuit.
We provide an advisory service so you can buy equipment appropriate to your needs as well as a range of discounts on surfboards and wetsuits at Surf Lisbon – House & School´s partners. We also take care of your surfboard and wetsuit if they need repair. Conditions for equipment rental:

  • All equipment is checked to ensure its good condition.
  • The customer is personally and financially responsible for the equipment during the rental period.
  • The equipment must be returned in a good condition: wetsuit and surfboard washed and cleaned.
  • It is necessary to leave an ID card with the Surf Instructor during the rental period.

Surf Lisbon – House & School

We are a family business that operates under strict license regulations imposed by the Captaincies of Lisbon and Cascais Port Authority, Turismo de Portugal, I. P. and the Portuguese Surfing Federation. Our license stipulates how many students we can have at any one time.

We get booked out every session and if you don’t turn up for your pre-booked lesson we still have to pay our staff, license fees, insurance and expenses.

We are the same as other businesses eg. if you buy a ticket to the movies, football, tennis etc. and don’t make the event for any circumstance no business gives you a free ticket or free seat at the next available event.

  • If you would like to reschedule a lesson you have booked, we need at least 24 HOURS NOTICE. Failure to give the necessary notice will mean you forfeit the cost of that lesson (including illness or injury).
  • Failure to attend your chosen day will mean you forfeit the cost of that lesson – under any circumstance, including illness or injury.
  • Surf Courses are not transferable to anyone else under any circumstance, except direct relatives (Husband / Wife, Parents / Sons, Siblings)
  • Please choose carefully – Once you have purchased a lesson or surf course – No refunds given under any circumstance including illness or injury.
  • Surf Courses, Surf Lessons, and Gift Vouchers are valid for 12 months from date of purchase and can’t be extended past the expiry date. (Because of strict license conditions and small group classes).
  • We reserve the right to modify any itinerary due to adverse weather conditions.

Portuguese beaches are perfect for all surfing levels, all year round, but being an activity practiced in the ocean sometimes we are subject to currents, shallow sandbanks and winds – we advise that you take time to consider these factors before you purchase your surfing lessons.

Any participant is covered by our insurance but we highly recommend you have your own Personal Insurance and / or Travel Insurance. 

Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your lesson starts. Unfortunately, latecomers will forfeit their lesson. We can not leave the other clients / guests in the water without their Instructor – under any circumstance.
